Behavioral Research in Aging, Neuroscience, Cognition, and Health

Interested in Becoming a Research Assistant

Thanks for your interest in joining the BRANCH Lab.

Expectations:

If you decide to join, I ask for a commitment of at least 2 semesters for at least 3 hours per week plus a weekly lab meeting (about 1 hour/week).

Current Projects Include:

ACCEL is a study of physical activity, sitting time, and sleep in older adults using accelerometers in cooperation with the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Center

ReST-MCI is an intervention to reduce sitting time in older adults with mild cognitive impairment in cooperation with the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Center

LEAP! is an educational program to teach people about Lifestyle Enrichment for Alzheimer's Prevention

Research Opportunities:

Joining the lab means that you would participate in my ongoing research projects, be invited to attend lectures and workshops related to the research, and have a chance to develop some of your own research ideas and get feedback on them. It is a good opportunity to develop research experience, add to your applications for grad school or jobs, and have someone to write letters of recommendation for you. If you participate for an extended period of time, you may even have the chance to be included on research publications.

Some of the research activities that lab members have been involved in include: practice clinical interviews, collect and analyze data using electronic physical activity monitors, attend conferences, design data collection forms and questionnaires, make tables or references for manuscripts sent for publication, read and summarize research articles, enter data, design a research study, collect background information on a research topic or data collection technique, discuss professional topics and applications for grad school, organize study materials related to research budgets and review board applications.

To apply for a position in the lab: Please send me by email:

  1. a CV
  2. a brief statement of your research interests and goals (including career or grad school aspirations)
  3. a list of your possible available hours to participate in the lab this semester
  4. whether you want to volunteer or earn course credit for your activities in the lab

Thanks again for your interest in participating in the lab. I look forward to hearing from you.
